Meanwhile halfway around the world life is very different. Life in America is nice. Most everyone is gainfully employed. Few people go hungry or without a warm place to sleep. In fact, a good life is available to most of the people. Some families even have room in their home and heart for others. This is the case for a family in south central Kentucky. The adoption journey for this family began in the fall of 1999. The couple had decided to add to their family. By January, they thought it would not be possible to have another baby of their own. So they decided to look into adoption. At an adoption fair in Louisville they saw a beautiful little Chinese girl being held by her American adoptive parents. They stood by the booth set up by A Helping Hand Adoption Agency. The couple inquired about the process of international adoption. They were able to get some literature and review it. After prayerful consideration the decision was made. The family members were informed and the required papers for adoption of a little girl were sent to China and arrived there in August of 2000. Now the couple and their teenage daughter and two-year-old son waited for the little Chinese girl to become part of their family. The name chosen for this child would be Dana Katherine. But the waiting had just begun as summer turned into fall and then the winter of 2001. Letters from the adoption agency spoke of a delay in referral time. What should have been seven months was turning into eight, nine and even ten months. But unexpected things happen. In January of 2001 the mother felt bad. She was nauseated and extremely fatigued. The "test" came back positive. At the first O.B. visit they did an ultrasound. It proved conclusive. They would have even another baby. What a surprise! The baby would be due in September. The Mother's sister promised to go and get the little China baby with the Father. Time progressed. Slowly the days passed. On August 24, 2001 the couple received the call that they had been waiting for. They had a beautiful new daughter. She was born on October 15, 2000. She resided in the Yujiang Social Welfare Institute in the Jiangxi Province. The next day the official papers arrived at the couple's home. Attached to the papers were pictures of the baby. She looked tiny, and sad. The papers indicated her age at nine months, weighing 15.4 pounds and 25.5 inches tall. Her health was listed as good. The couple's health care provider reviewed the physical exam. She was given the seal of approval and a paper was signed and sent to A Helping Hand to officially accept her as their own. On September 7, 2001 Camryn Alyse Newland was born. The newest family member now also awaited her sister's arrival from China. On October 18, 2001 Daddy and Aunt Nay Nay left from Nashville, Tennessee for their journey to China. On October 21st in Nanchang, China little Dana Katherine, known in the orphanage as Yu Hua-qui, was placed in her father's arms. She cried, he cried and Aunt Nay Nay cried (while she videotaped). When Dana got to her hotel room, her Daddy phoned her Mommy. Her Mommy felt overwhelmed with joy. Oh how she wished she could be with her and hold her. In the mean time, Dana was calming down and adjusting to the new people in her life. Slowly but surely she was developing trust and bonding with her newfound family. She ate well and slept roughly to begin with but began to adapt to her new life. Happiness for her was her Daddy holding her and Aunt Nay Nay caring for her. She had this feeling, deep in her heart, that something good had happened to her. Family members anxiously awaited her arrival. On October 31, 2001 she arrived at the Nashville Airport. Soon she was given more affection and attention than she could handle, but she grew to love it. Two days after she got home she walked alone for the first time. American food was delicious. She loved this new thing called a pacifier. Her big brother, Grant, was a pest but he was also fun and had a lot of neat toys. Big sister, Megan, was wonderful. She took excellent care of her and doted on her. What was that tiny thing in that little bed? She was yet another sister to love. Mommy was very busy, but Dana soon learned that she too would take good care of her. It took a while, but eventually everyone found his or her place in the home and family. It was really going to be a nice place to live. God heard that Mother's prayer and her little angel wants her to know that she is happy and content and she loves her and her new family.
