Updating Your Fingerprints
When should I update my fingerprints with USCIS?
This should be done at least 30 days before the fingerprint expiration date.
How much does it cost?
First time update is free. If this is the second time you are updating your fingerprints, a fee of $ 80 for each adult member living in your household will be required. Please note: If the original fingerprints have expired, the family must pay the fingerprint update fee of $ 80 per adult member of your household.
How do I update my fingerprints?
The following is required to update your finger prints:
1. A copy of your USCIS Notice of Approval (I-171h/I-797c)
2. A letter to the USCIS requesting a fingerprint update (see Below)
Dear USCIS Adoption Unit,
We are writing this letter to request a fingerprint update in order to complete our adoption from China. Enclosed is a copy
of our current Approval (I-171h or I-797c) indicating our fingerprints will expire on mm/dd/yy .
Thank you,
Enter your names
3. Include a fee if necessary (a check made out to US CIS )
4. Send the letter, the copy of your USCIS Notice of Approval (I-171h/ I-797c) with the fingerprint expiration highlighted and any fees, if necessary, to the address printed on your Notice of Approval (located Top left)
What happens next?
USCIS will send you a letter informing you of a scheduled appointment to update your fingerprints. You should receive this letter approximately two weeks after you submit your request.
**Important Note
It is necessary that your fingerprints are updated before you can update your USCIS Notice of Approval (I-171h/I-797c). In other words, make sure your finger prints are valid and do not expire!
